Revlon Lip Butters Review+Swatches!:)

I have been so psyched about writing this post for so long! They’re another product which everyone has already reviewed, but I love them so much, so now I’ve collected all the shades I wanted I can write about them. So yay! I have 16 shades- they’re mostly the brighter, more pigmented shades because I’m not a huge fan of all of the pale baby pinks they have. I’ve done swatches for all of them- except Invite Only and Provocative which I talked about the other day in my last post. Here are all the pictures, and then I’ll do a little review of them:D

By the way- I know these swatches aren’t amazing but that’s just my rubbish lighting and photography. You can also wear these a lot more opaque/ less opaque, this is just how I like the colours:D

For those of you how don’t know, the Revlon Lip Butters are pretty much 50/50 lip balm and lip stick. They’re like the tinted moisturiser of the lipstick-world. They’re all very nicely pigmented- a lot of people have said that some shades are more pigmented than the others but I actually just think some colours show up better because of the shade. They glide on really nicely and evenly and you don’t even need a mirror to apply most of them. Some of the newer formulas are a little less buttery than the originals I think, but they all feel the same on the lips. One or two shades are ever so slightly gritty feeling, purely because they have a little bit of glittery shimmery stuff in them, but it’s nothing unbearable. These lip butters aren’t particularly moisturising or drying- my lips will pretty much feel the same before and after wearing them. The one thing about these butters that isn’t absolutely amazing is how long they last. Obviously they don’t last as long as a lipstick, because they are very shiny and will move around on the lips a little, but they last a good hour or so and are really easy to re-apply. You don’t need a lot of product to get an almost opaque colour, either. Some of the darker, more intense shades will fade to an almost-matte stain on the lips, which is really cool. Most of the colours are pretty true to how they look in the bullet as well, apart from Berry Smoothie. That one is kind of a shock. So basically- loads of cute colours, cute names, great product, stunning packaging- you can’t go wrong.

I haven’t done any swatches for Invite Only or Provacative (new limited edition lip butters) but if you’d like to have a look at those, have a look at my last post:)

Which shades do you like the look of? Are there any here that you have or that you’re going to buy? And are there maybe one or two more colours I should get…? What’s Strawberry Shortcake like? It looks pretty but I was thinking it might be too light for me. I also really want Cherry Tart, but for some reason that’s the only shade they don’t sell in the UK, annoyingly. I love these lip butters so much, they actually take up like half of my lipstick drawer now!:D

Thanks for reading this far:), hope you liked this post!

New Limited Edition Revlon Lip Butters!

I WAS SO WORRIED THEY’D STOPPED MAKING NEW LIP BUTTERS!

Just had to get that out there:D I checked the Boots website the other day, and I saw these. At first I thought it was some sort of cruel editing joke, but no, they are real, and they are in my make-up collection:)

I think that the last time I talked about the Lip Butters I had four of five of them? I now have twelve (er…) because I love them so, so much. There are about four more that I’d love to get my hands on (especially while they’re 2 for £10, which is a huge saving) and when I have those, I’m going to go swatch-crazy and do some sort of collection post:) I know you’ve seen them all, but I need to celebrate these:D

The new shades are called Provacative (purple in the silver packaging) and Invite Only (the teal/ turquoise/ blue beautifullness). Very different from the cute and fruity and calorific names of the rest of the butters. Maybe these two ‘limited edition’ (yeah, right) shades are teasers for a new, sheerer collection? That would be both fabulous and expensive.

Revlon are sticking to their super cute packaging with there new shades, with a little added sparkle. No complaints:D I don’t quite understand why Provacative is in a silver case, though. I know they already have purple packaging, but they could have done a really pale purple, like the blue, couldn’t they? Maybe not. Anyway, I like it:)

Ok, before I get into the psycho-babble about how much I love these- I’ve got to get this out there- I think these are going to get a lot of hate. They are very, very sheer- these are literally lip butters because they aren’t tinted on the lips at all. If you have very very pale lips, you might see a hint of lilac with Provocative, but it’s going to be light. So if you’re looking for a tinted balm, try some of the other shades. If, however, you need lip butters like drugs, then you’ll probably see the wonderful in these:)

Right, ok, I’ll actually talk about them now:)

These, being fairly new, have the newer formula of the lip butters, obviously. So they’re not as ‘buttery’ (for lack of a better term) in the tube and you can apply them without smushing them. Which is awesome. I also don’t think these are as melty as the colourful ones. I could be really, horrifically wrong, but they seem more like a real lip balm. The feel nice on the lips, too. They aren’t gritty- at all- they’re really smooth and lightweight. I have found that one or two of the glittery lip butters feel kind of gross, but these don’t. The glitter particles in these are tiny, so it looks more like shimmer which I’m loving, especially when they catch the light.

And this is the best bit- they’re iridescent and they kind of shimmer in blue and purple. So, when you put these on the lips, it makes them look really healthy and natural and glowing- almost like a very faint highlight for the lips. It’s so different to anything else I’ve tried. I might just be fangirling because they are Revlon Lip Butters, but honestly, I love these. They’re just beautiful, natural, shimmery, shiny, sparkly balms and I am seriously considering picking up another ‘Invite Only’ to take with me to school.

I took the next few photos with flash under really harsh lighting to try and show you the shimmer. I didn’t work as well as I hoped, but I think you’ll get the idea:)

Revlon Lip butters are normally £7.99, but at the moment you can pick them up on 2-for-£10 at Boots and Superdrug. Honestly, even at £5, these two, because there’s no colour, are pretty overpriced. But I’m happy I have them because I’ll definitely get a lot of wear out of them. Let me know what you think of these! Or we can just chat about how beautiful they look.

Thanks for reading!

Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo

There must be millions of reviews for these already on the internet, but I thought I’d add one more:D I bought some of these for my mom over a year ago, and I didn’t really think much of them at the time, but the other day I caved under the pressure of the blogospere, and I now have three.  So…great.

The packaging of these products is one of the main things I love about them. It feels so much more expensive than it is! I think it’s made of glass, which is clever because it magnifies the 4g’s of product so it feels like you’re getting a lot more. The glass jar has ‘Color Tattoo 24HR’ printed on it, and it’s all shiny, but then on the lid it has a little description and the shade name and stuff. I actually store mine upside-down, because the glass side is prettier;)

The shade range for these isn’t bad either, I believe there are 11 shades available in the UK? There are 11 at Superdrug, anyway, but only 9 at Boots. I have On and On Bronze, Pink Gold and Permanent Taupe but there are more I definitely want to get my hands on. The colours all look pretty good- there are a few neutrals, a couple of wearable colours and a few very loud, very bright shades that I would so love to be able to pull off! Metallic Pomegranate and Turquoise Forever (the one used for the ad’s) look so beautiful, and I think we all know I’ll probably end up buying them:) I think the next ones I pick up will probably be Timeless Black, Immortal Charcoal and Light in Purple.

The price of these is absolutely brilliant, £4.99! And they’re currently 3-for-2 at Boots and Superdrug. I was actually expecting them to be more around the £7/8 mark, so that was a nice surprise at the counter:)

I guess that in a review I should talk about the product:) These, obviously, claim to be 24 hour wear, though why anyone would need to wear eye make-up for 24 hours is totally beyond me. I can safely say that these last me from eight in the morning to eight at night, without moving around too much. I do find that if I put it above the socket line, though, it wears off quicker. I’m not entirely sure why, but on my eye lid it doesn’t budge. I’ve used these as base for the Naked eyeshadows (which crease terribly) and it did help them stay put, too. I prefer the look of them on their own, though.

The main selling point of these ‘Gel-Cream Eyeshadows’, I think, is how ridiculously easy they are to apply.  They just glide straight on, and then you blend them, for, like, two seconds, and you’re done! And it looks like you’ve spent way more time on your makeup than you’ve actually bothered too. They make me feel better about not being able to apply eye-shadow the way all the incredible beauty Youtubers do;)

These are just so versatile. You can use them as a base, build them up, make it natural or mix-and-match colours for a fool-proof smokey-eye-thing. I am totally loving them:)

Image

Permanent Taupe: This one is pretty dark, but still wearable. You could even get a small angled brush and wear this as an eyeliner. It’s probably the most difficult to blend out of the ones I’ve tried, I think that’s because it’s a more matte shade.

On and On Bronze: This has been my go-to, every day colour. It’s so pretty! It’s so shimmery, but in a really nice way. It blends really brilliantly, too. When this runs out- because it will- I’ll definitely pick up another one.

Pink Gold: The least creatively-cringe-named one is the newest edition to my teeny tiny collection, because I bought it this morning. But I’m wearing at the moment, and when I apply it really lightly, I really, really love it. It looks so natural (my eyes but better- very underused term) that I could probably even get away with it at school. I won’t, because school is disgusting, but I could;)

I hope this was helpful! Probably wasn’t, you’ve all seen reviews for these:) Which shades do you have/want?

Natural Collection Lipsticks- Updated Review/Swatches&upcoming giveaway?

I did a post about these really recently, but I looked at it the other day and realised the swatches were virtually non existent, so I decided that because I’ve picked up a few more anyway, I might as well re-do the whole post with real swatches and everything:)!

Image

Image

Quick review before the swatches- if you read the last post, feel free to skip this part because it’ll basically be the same thing:)

First of all, I just want to mention the packaging. I’ve seen reviews for these lipsticks saying that the packaging is too cheap-feeling, and looks breakable. I completely disagree- it’s a £1.99 lipstick! I’m glad that Natural Collection choose to spend their money on the product not the packaging. It’s not the prettiest looking lipstick, but it’s far from the worst packaging I’ve seen and it does the job. When I was 8, I had one of these lipsticks (long since lost) and I kept it for years before I threw it away and it never broke. And I love the little flower logo!

The colour range for these lipsticks is pretty great, too. It’s definitely much better than you’d expect it to be for such a cheap brand. I own nine of these, and there are still two or three more I’d consider buying. The rest of the collection is mainly baby-pinks,  deep browns, and the occasional tacky-glittery one. I can’t wear pale pinks or nudes because my natural lip colour is very dark, browns look awful against my skin tone and the glittery ones are pretty crappy, to be honest. My sister has one called Pink Orchid, which is bright, sparkly, and has barely any pigment. I think she uses it on her barbie dolls or something:) I’d love them to attempt a bright purple or orange like some of the other high street brands. I also love that the names actually make sense to the colour! I’m looking at you, Revlon Lip Butters.

The quality of these lipsticks is incredible for the £1.99 price tag. They come in two ranges- Moisture Shine, pretty self explanatory, and Sheer Natural. Sheer Natural is obviously less pigmented, but you can still build it to a fairly good colour. The Moisture Shine’s can be almost opaque, particularly the darker shades, but they still stay shiny and pretty.

The one thing that isn’t amazing about these lipsticks is that they don’t last very long. I don’t know if that’s because they’re shiny, but they do fade to nothing after maybe two hours, maximum. But they fade nicely, not in that disgusting lip-liner way, and most of the colours are natural enough that you can re-apply them without thinking (or even using a mirror).

The swatches!

Dry Skin Solutions

I honestly have the most annoying skin, ever. It can go from really oily, to really dry in a few days. It’s insane, but over the past year or so, I’ve built up a pretty fool-proof collection of products that make my skin a little more normal.

So, think of this as part one, because there’ll be an ‘Oily Skin Solutions’ post in a few days, hopefully! I’m also thinking of doing a favourite skincare post, too- sensing a pattern? I go a bit skincare-crazy when I don’t have to leave the house (wooooo school holidays). Just so you know, this isn’t going to be insanely detailed, it’s just a list, really, of what products I use:)

Hair

OK, I have really long, thick, dark hair (nightmare), so in summer it gets crazily dehydrated. I have honestly seriously considered chopping all my hair off because of this. Seriously, the other day I was just standing in front of the mirror, with a pair of scissors ready to cut my hair to a chin-length bob (ironically pretty popular right now), before I managed to snap myself out of it. Luckily, I’ve found some pretty great products.

  1. About half an hour before I wash my hair, I’ll cover my hair in conditioner, normally Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. I’ll cover all of my hair with this, even the roots, which can be pretty scary. If your scalp is dry, it’s going to start producing more oil, which will cling to the roots of your hair but not really effect the scalp, which is why you can end up with the dreaded dry scalp/ greasy hair combo. So, to get rid of this, you have to moisturise the scalp- hello conditioner. Terrifying, but when you rinse it out properly, it’ll do wonders for your hair;)
  2. Anyway, after the 30-minute-condition, I like to use E45 Conditioning Shampoo. It smells kind of funky, but it really does the job. Then just rinse, dry and style like normal;)! Yeah, that’s right, I condition then shampoo. Crazy. Drastic times, drastic measures.
  3. I’ve been loving the VO5 Hot-Oil Treatments, too. It’s great for dry, damaged hair and makes it super soft and shiny.

Body

I think we all have dozens of moisturisers, body butters, and lotions stashed away somewhere. They’re annoying, but I swear, these ones work. I’ve included my fave body wash in the list too;) –

  1. If you have dry skin, E45 Cream is your friend. It’s not fancy, it doesn’t have pretty packaging and it doesn’t smell amazing, but it’s probably one of the best dry-skin-fixes there is. I normally use this before I go to bed because it’s so moisturising.
  2. Nip + Fab Body Butters= amazing. They smell great, they soak into your skin and I don’t find the perfumes in them too harsh for sensitive skin.
  3. This is one that I’m not sure many people use for dry skin, but Bio-Oil. Because, you guessed it, it’s an oil. Basically, last year I was pretty ill, and lost a lot of weight, but then I started running and eating and stuff so I gained a lot of muscle very, very quickly. This, of course, meant I got stretch marks on the back of my knees. I started using Bio-Oil, but then I realised how amazingly moisturised it made my skin feel, so I’ve just kept using it.
  4. Sanex 0% Body Wash for dry and very dry skin- I go through this stuff like it’s oxygen. Just buy it.

Face

For lack of a better title. To make things awkward, I always manage to maintain my teenage-skin-oily-t-zone, but I sometimes get very dry skin on the rest of my face. So…

  1. First thing in the morning, I clean my skin with Bioderma. I can’t say enough good things about Bioderma, it’s awesome. It doesn’t really ‘treat’ skin, but it is going to make it nice and clean.
  2. I use two moisturisers in the morning, but for now I’ll just talk about Clinique Moisture Surge. It is amazing. It’s one of those products that just feels expensive, and I’d recommend it to anybody.
  3. Make-up as normal! Luckily, when I’ve used a moisturiser, I don’t have any problems with my make-up, but if you do, then definitely look for a foundation formulated for dry/normal skin.
  4. At the end of the day, I’ll remove my make-up with Bioderma (again) and then use a really creamy facial wash, like Soap&Glory Peaches and Clean, before using Moisture Surge again, and going to bed.

And there we have it;) Those are some of the products I use for dry skin. The next post (Oily Skin) is going to have spot treatments and exfoliaters in there, too;) Let me know if you like Skincare Posts!

On a completely different note, this is what I did to my hair a few weeks ago before I cut it. Apparently, my hair’s pretty resistant to bleach.

Etsy- LittleDistractions jewellery

This is the first thing I’ve ever bought from Etsy, I didn’t even really know about it until about two months ago. Cass told me about these (have a look at what she ordered here) and I thought they looked so pretty I had to order something:)

I ordered these from the US about two months ago, so they arrived the other week and I have no idea why I haven’t reviewed them until now. They arrived in the most adorable packaging ever.

Image

Image

Image

The little envelope on the front was filled with cute little cards with discounts and information and stuff. It’s so cute!

Image

I ended up ordering four rings and a bracelet. I am totally in love with all of them! I don’t wear them all at the same time, but this is what they look like…

Image

I’ve been wearing one of the above-knuckle heart rings on my middle finger, and the ‘love’ ring on my index finger on my left hand, and then some of my mom’s old rings on my right hand.

Image

Image

Image

This jewellery is made with thin craft wire, so it does bend but it will pretty much stay in place. They aren’t going to last forever, especially if you’re wearing them often, but at the price I would definitely re-purchase them. Pretty much all the items she sells are available in copper, gold and silver and you can personalize them with names and stuff. There’s even a really cool quote bracelet that I can’t wait to get my hands on! There’s loads more jewellery on LittleDistractions Etsy shop, and I’d definitely order from there again. The one teeny-tiny bad point I’ve found with these, is that my skin is quite sensitive to the metal, so if I try and wear them for too long it makes my skin a little itchy. But apart from that, everything’s gorgeous and amazing quality!

Let me know if you decide try some of this jewellery!
