Nail Polish | Autumn Favourites

I really loved talking about my favourite autumn lip colours the other day, and as it’s been way too long since I last talked about nail polish, I thought I’d do another Top-10! And it’s only been three days since my last post- look at me sticking to a schedule.

Image

1. Seventeen Rock Hard Nail Effects- Black

Image

Black is definitely my favourite nail polish colour, particularly at this time of year, and I think this textured one is really pretty and interesting.

2. Barry M Matte Nail Paint- Espresso

Image

Black nail polish again! This one dries to an almost matte finish- it’s almost impossible to apply it neatly but when you do it looks gorgeous.

3. Barry M Matte Nail Paint- Crush

Image

This is probably one of my favourite nail polishes ever, and I only bought it about a week ago. Such a beautiful, matte-finish, deep-red-wine-burgundy shade.

4. Barry M Hi Shine Gelly- Blackberry

Image

I had get one of my lovely Hi Shine Gelly nail polishes in this post! This super-dark, super-shiney blue is lovely.

5. Collection 2000 Hot Looks- Hidden

Image

Khaki green isn’t the kind of nail polish shade I would usually go for, but with a gold glitter top coat I think this one looks awesome.

6. OPI- Just Spotted The Lizard

Image

This is my all time favourite nail polish, and even though I wear it all year round, I think it’s a particularly beautiful Autumnal, leafy shade.

7. Zoya- Carly

Image

This shade was from a Summer collection, but it’s dark, glittery and purple so it’s definitely in my Autumn nail polish wardrobe.

8. OPI- Number One Nemesis

Image

Dark, glittery grey- this nail polish is absolutely perfect. I love this one and it’s majorly under-hyped on the internet.

9. OPI Don’t Pretzel My Buttons

Image

This one really doesn’t look like much, but it’s my absolute favourite nude nail polish and I’ve been wearing it pretty much every day at the moment.

10. OPI- Call Me Gwen-ever

Image

Bright pumpkin orange because why the hell not?

So they are my current favourite nail polishes. I think they’re all really pretty colours, some of the formulas (Barry M Matte) aren’t my favourite, but I only normally wear one nail polish colour for a day or two so that doesn’t really matter. Do you like the look of- or have any- of these?

Barry M | Shadow and Blush Palette

OMG BARRY M PALETTES ASDFGHJKL

Image

Image

I get a little obsessive, if any of you have noticed, so when I saw that Barry M had released a pretty, organised make-up palette I decided I had to have at least one of them. Barry M has been one of my favourite nail polish brands for almost a year now, but I’d never really tried their make-up so a palette seemed like a good investment. Right? Right.

Three palettes have been released- Natural Glow, Glamour Puss and Smokin’ Hot. I decided to buy Natural Glow (a pretty neutral palette) and Glamour Puss (because it was limited edition and the glittery, colourful shades looked awesome). I’m not a huge fan of dark smokey eye looks, so I didn’t bother with Smokin’ Hot, but only having 2 of the 3 new releases is slightly stressful so I might have to go and buy that one too. Saying that, I wouldn’t be surprised if Barry M released more of these next year, so maybe I can wait…

The first thing that I thought when I picked these up was how damn cute the packaging was. It’s not the most hand-bag-proof, but I love the Soap&Glory-esque cardboard palette. The names and the Barry M logo is printed on the front in pretty metallic lettering too which I love. It’s got a little magnet to keep it closed, which seems to work fine. It’s pretty and functional, and you can’t really ask for more from a £6.49 palette.

Though these are advertised as Shadow and Blush palettes, the main feature is definitely the eyeshadows. I’d almost prefer it if they’d swap the blush for another two shadows. Blush is a kind of personal thing, I think. It’s difficult to get your perfect blush shade and there are probably only a few people who would genuinely wear the blush shades in these palettes. The eye shadow colour range, however, is genuinely lovely and worth putting up with the blush for.

Natural Glow

One of the first things I noticed about this palette was that some of the shades were very Urban Decay. They aren’t quite dupes, but they’re close enough. They all look pretty and natural, with two matte shades and four super shimmery shades.

The formula for the eyeshadows is really soft and not at all chalky, but I do find that they really blend themselves together when applied. You can’t get any definite lines and sections of colour with these, but they make a pretty, natural eye make-up look.

“Enhance your natural glow with these 6 subtle eyeshadows in natural hues and pastel pink blush.”

Image

Shade 1- lovely shimmery, slightly sliver pink. This reminds me of a mix of Sin and Toasted from the Naked palette, or Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24HR in Pink Gold.

Shade 2- peachy-cream shade- I believe this might be pretty similar to one of the colours in the Naked Basics palette? But it’s also a lot like a pale version of Bootycall from Naked 2.

Shade 3- this is really just a medium brown, which is matte so I reckon a lot of people will be able to use this for their eyebrows. it’s like a mix of Naked and Buck from the Naked palette.

Image

Shade 4- shimmery grey/brown, almost like a pale version of Pistol from Naked. This is probably my favourite of the shades, it’s very pretty.

Shade 5- this is a lovely dark bronze, another of my favourites in this palette. Carrying on with the Urban Decay comparisons, this is quite similar to Smog but slightly less…bronze?

Shade 6- dark, shimmery, almost-slightly-plum-toned brown. If you were going to mix Darkhorse and Hustle, this is what you’d get.

Image

Blush- baby pink and shimmery. Despite being fairly pigmented (like all of these shades) this blush barely shows up on my super-pale skin, and all it does is make imperfections (of which I have many) look even worse. Because it’s shimmery, it might look pretty as a highlighter on darker skin tones but for me it’s pretty useless.

Glamour Puss

Image

Image

Image

This is the only palette out of the three which is limited edition. I can’t decide whether it’s supposed to be Halloween or Christmas themed, but it’s filled with some dark, glittery, colourful eyeshadows which look simply gorgeous.

The formula for these is very similar to the Natural Glow palette- they aren’t too chalky and they aren’t too creamy, but they blend almost too well.

“Bring out your inner glamour puss with these 6 shimmering party eyeshadows and hot pink blush.”

Image

Shade 1- this looks just like a shimmery version of Shade 2 from Natural Glow. Pretty highlight colour.

Shade 2- this is a really pretty, super shimmery grey blue colour which would look gorgeous with loads of black eye liner, I think.

Shade 3- shimmery, plum- purple. This is absolutely gorgeous, but I’m still trying to work out how to wear it. Maybe as a liner? I’d love it as a lip colour.

Image

Shade 4- shimmery medium grey. This would probably look stunning with green eyes, even as an all-over lid colour.

Shade 5- dark shimmery brown- this is like a glittery version of Naked’s Darkhorse. Yes, I’m back to the Urban Decay comparisons.

Shade 6- dark shimmery grey, like a glittery mix of Creep and Gunmetal from Naked.

Image

Blush- bright hot pink. I’m still too scared to try this, but it’s a really amazing colour.

So that’s it! I’ve come to the conclusion that for the price, these palettes are awesome. Have you tried them?

Available at Boots and Superdrug for £6.49.

Lip Colours | Autumn Favourites

I was going to do this post a month ago- I swear. The official start of Autumn was the 22nd ish of September…wasn’t it? I don’t know, but that’s when this post was supposed to be up. But apparently, I had to buy another seven purple lip products since then- online shopping- argh! This, for me, is definitely the best time of year for lipstick. I love the pretty berry tones and socially-acceptable reds, and I think that Autumn is great for the warm shades. You know, how Winter is like, bright reds and stuff, Spring is baby pink, Summer is bright orange, and Autumn is berry purple. That’s literally my annual lipstick code. So…yeah. Intro done (ish).

Image

1. Clinique Chubby Stick Intense- Grandest Grape

Image

This is a really nice one to start with, because Grandest Grape is the most perfect, pure Autumn purple. It’s a beautiful shade, whether it’s worn to it’s full opacity or as a sheer, glossy stain. I really love the Intense range of the Chubby Sticks- I’m planning on buying Mightiest Maraschino very soon.

 2. Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick- Plum Jam

 Image

The Soap&Glory lip crayons are one of my favourite lip products ever- particularly this shade. I’m not one to wear lip gloss, I totally hate the stuff and even have trouble with the lovely Rimmel Apocalips, but these have that lovely lip-glossy look, without being sticky or heavy. This is a really pretty, purple/ dark pink and it’s a perfect warm, everyday autumn colour. Also, it smells like vanilla. Yummy.

 3. Mac Lipstick- Plumful (Lustre)

Image

I only brought my first Mac lipstick about three months ago- I chose Plumful and now I am so, so glad I did. At the time, I didn’t really feel like wearing a purple lip colour (purple lips scream Autumn, oversized sweaters and hot chocolate to me) but now it’s absolutely perfect. You can read my full review of it here, but basically, it’s a lovely medium purple which can be worn as almost-sheer to almost-opaque.

 4. Revlon Lip Butter- Red Velvet

Image

The first of the red toned lip colours in this post is absolutely gorgeous. Red Velvet is a deep red wine colour –almost burgundy actually- which always makes me think of Christmas. I know, I know, it’s October. BUT CHRISTMAS! As this is one of the darker lip butter shades, it has lovely pigmentation and the sheen of a lip balm.

5. Revlon Lip Butter- Sugar Plum

Image

This lip butter is another purple shade (I might have a problem) but this one looks more like a dark pink with a kind of purple warmth to it. Does that make sense? I feel like this is a more pigmented, less glossy version of Plum Jam. It’s very pretty- another everyday, daytime lip colour.

 6. Revlon Lip Butter- Tutti Frutti

Image

This isn’t exactly the sort of colour that comes to mind when I think of Autumn, but Tutti Frutti is an awesome Halloween- pumpkin shade. It’s very bright, but I guess I need to get out of the berry-lips-for-Autumn mindset. This is definitely orange, so it’s not going to look too peachy and Summery. It would be a nice pick-me-up for a particularly miserable, cold day, too.

7. Maybelline Baby Lips- Cherry Me

Image

The name says it all- Cherry. This is a really gorgeous colour, my favourite of the Baby Lips range. If you haven’t tried these yet, go and pick this one up for £2.99. You can’t go wrong- it’s a great everyday, throw-it-in-your-handbag lip balm.

 8. Vaseline- Paint the Town Red

Image

Speaking of lip balm- the new Vaseline! *And still, I haven’t picked up that bloody pink and black one, argh*. I saw this in Boots a few days ago, and I was like, woah- a red tinted lip balm? Favourite thing ever. As it turns out, this is just very slightly pink, but it’s lovely all the same for those days where you really can’t be bothered (most days for me). And it smells like Ribena, which is awesome.

9. Rimmel Colour Rush Balm- Keep Mauving

Image

One of the newer additions to my ever-growing collecction of lip crayons (yes, it is getting out of hand, thanks for asking)  are a couple of these Colour Rush Balms. They smell like vanilla, and this one, Keep Mauving, is lovely. It’s a very dark plum, which has slight brown tones to it. It’s kind of vampy, in a neutral way. It would like pretty awesome with gold eyeliner, I think.

 10. Mua Power Pout- Crazy in Love

Image

Don’t be fooled by the purple packaging and actual lipstick bullet- this is definitely what I would classify as a red. It’s dark, but it’s definitely red. It’s very pretty, has a minty scent and for only £3, it’s a great affordable lip colour. It’s really shiny too, which I love, and it definitely feels like a balm with the pigmentation of lipstick. Just as a side note- don’t leave one of these in your car or handbag, it’s very melt-y, and the packaging isn’t fantastic.

So that is my top-10 list of lip colours for Autumn! As I’ve been writing this, I’ve realised there are another fifteen lip products I could have put into this post, so I think I’ll have to do a Winter-Top-10 too.

Thanks for reading, what are your favourite lip products for this time of year? Have you tried any on my list?

Rose Jam | Lush

I’m not sure how many of you are completely obsessed with Lush, and how many of you freak out when something new is released, but I am definitely one of those people, so when I saw that Rose Jam (one of my very favourite Bubble Bars ever) had been made into a shower gel, I absolutely had to have it. I think it’s been re-released actually, but oh well.

Image

“Lather this sweet scented shower gel onto your skin. With lemon to bring clarity and rose to lift the spirits.”

“For a fruity lather with a floral fragrance. With Turkish rose absolute, geranium oil and a hint of lemon, this delicious bouquet will keep you smelling of roses.”

I’ve never really been crazy about Lush shower gels, having only ever used Snow Fairy and Flying Fox. I always found the bottles really annoying and the scents never blew me away. But this shiny new one seems completely different and it smells so, so good. It’s a slightly grown up raspberry jam scent, which is only slightly floral. The scent lasts forever on your skin too- which is a first for Lush shower gels, I think..?  And I love the colour. I’m normally not a fan of pink, but this shade gorgeous. I just had to mention that.

The main, natural ingredients in this are: Water, Vanilla Pod Infusion, Cypress Leaf Infusion, Goji Berry Juice, Argan Oil, Organic Rose Absolute, Rose Oil, Egyptian Geranium Oil and Lemon Oil. So, basically, it’s fruity and floral and yummy:) Also, I’ve used Lush Shower Gels to wash my hair before and they work really well, but this contains argan oil so it’s particularly awesome for your hair.

Rose Jam Shower Gel is limited edition, so go and buy a bottle now. Like, right this second. My 100ml bottle which I bought about two weeks ago is almost completely gone, so I’m going to have to pick up at least one 500ml bottle- and maybe put five or six on my Christmas list. That’s just reminded me about all the beautiful Halloween/ Christmas stuff Lush have just released that I need to get my hands on. SO MUCH TO BE OBSESSED WITH AT THIS TIME OF YEAR ARGHH

Thanks for reading:) and sorry about the lack of posts recently, but I’ve got a couple of things to talk about really soon!:)
