The 2014 Beauty Favourites

I haven’t written anything on this blog for a very long time, and I have absolutely no excuses. I’ve got so many half finished drafts saved, but the longer I left posting them, the more intimidating finishing them seemed- but I couldn’t let 2014 end without writing up a little something about my favourite products of the year. (Actually, the writing part of this post is almost over now. I’m still quite nervous)

Rimmel Match Perfection- pretty much the only foundation I’ve been wearing this year. 010 Porcelain is actually light enough for me, which makes a lovely change, and the coverage is kind of light/ medium, but buildable. I plan to branch out a bit, foundation wise, in 2015 but I actually have a spare bottle of this hiding in the back of my makeup drawer.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer- another pale skin saviour! This bronzer is completely matte (so great for contouring), and you can go pretty heavy handed with this stuff without looking too bronzed. I use it with the Real Techniques Blush Brush [not pictured].

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette- obviously. I honestly cannot gush about this palette enough, so I’m just going to sneakily link you to my review and swatches post.

Sleek Blush Trio in ‘Lace’- I’m not really an big blusher fan (I’m working on it!) but this palette has been one of my most reached for makeup items this year. I’ve been using the red shade on pretty much every makeup wearing day, but they’re so pigmented that I’ve not even dented the pan. Review and swatches here.

L’oread Miss Manga Mascara in Purple- a new addition, but a very welcome one. I don’t really love mascara, and I’m actually completely clueless when it comes to what makes a mascara good (I know I like Benefit They’re Real and Soap&Glory Thick and Fast…help?) but the slightly purple tint to this one is what I love. It’s just something a little bit different, and helps towards making my, honestly, swamp coloured eyes look just a little bit more like hazel.

MAC Lipsticks in ‘Patisserie’ and ‘Plumful’- I’m honestly not sure I need any other lipsticks. These are just beautiful, and I’m not going to say much more because one of the many previously mentioned drafts may well turn into a MAC lipstick swatch-a-thon.

Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks- I tend to think of these as MAC Lipsticks in gloss form. The smell like vanilla, have medium, but pretty colour payoff and they last really nicely. I actually have a series of posts about lip crayons, these included, which is right here.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Skin Protectant- the best lip balm ever, and a little goes a long way.  It’s also great for really dry skin and as a cuticle conditioner.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers- I’m not sure where I’d be without these. I have very straight eyelashes, and at my healthiest and most awake I look a bit dead (I’m coming across really well in this post) but these go a long way towards fixing that!

Carmex Lip Balms- another new discovery! The formula of these lip balms is actually quite similar to the Skin Protectant, but these smell a little nicer and are much more convenient for throwing in your handbag (or pockets. Or both. Out of interest, how many lip balms normally leave the house with you?).

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream- this might be the only hand cream I’ve ever used that is super nourishing, but not sticky. I’ve been using this hand cream nightly for almost a year now, and I’ve only gone through two of the full sized bottles, so it’s a really worthwhile buy. The packaging could be better- the lid isn’t the most convenient if you’re on the go, it’s definitely a bedside table thing- but it’s really the product that counts.

Manuka Doctor Skincare- that’s the Blemish Cream in the picture above, but I’ve been testing out a few products in the anti-blemish range recently (about two months) and I’ve been loving them. Skincare is definitely one of my new years resolutions (I actually hate new years resolutions and refuse to make any, but I promise I will get better at skin care!) and this range is at the top of my list of things to write a post about.

Thanks for reading! I’m going to try and get back to blogging a little bit more regularly in 2015- as I’ve been typing I’ve had a few ideas for posts that I’m actually looking forward to writing which I’m very happy about. I feel like I’ve missed loads, I didn’t even ramble about Naked Basics 2 (got it, love it, not as thrilled with the colour selection and eyeshadow quality as I was with Naked Basics, though)!

I hope you had a great year, feel free to tell me all about your favourite beauty products from 2014 in the comments! MAC Lipstick recs are also welcome, I’m obsessed again. Also blushers! What are your favourites?

Top 5 Under £5

I tried to narrow it down to five things- I really, really did.

Maybelline Baby Lips£2.99– photo:Cherry Me- The Baby Lips lip balms have been the buzz of the drugstore beauty world for a while now, so if you haven’t had a hundred reviews of them shoved down your throat then where have you been hiding? The tinted balms in particular are wonderful, and they’re almost always on three-for-two at Boots and Superdrug. It’s not a question of ‘have you tried them?’, it’s more of a ‘how many of them are kicking around in your handbag?’.

Natural Collection Lipsticks– £1.99- photo:Raspberry- I’ve written about these quite a few times before, but I honestly cannot get over the quality of these lipsticks. The colour, the lasting powder, the price tag- it’s all good.

Natural Collection Blush- £1.99– photo:Peach Melba- I love this blush so much- it’s the only shade I’ve tried but it’s really pretty, easy to wear and goes with everything. It’s surprisingly pigmented, too, and another one with a double-take price tag.

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder- £3.99photo:Transparent- I’m not normally one to go crazy over powders, but this one is pretty damn good. It sets everything nicely, controls oils and I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad review.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer- £4.19photo:Fair- This concealer is truly incredible, and it’s one of the few items I actually own a  back up of. It’s incredibly pigmented and long lasting and the lightest shade actually matches my skin tone *screams*! The packaging and shade range of these has very recently been changed, so I’m going to have to do some Superdrug swatching very soon.

Rimmel Scandeleyes Waterproof Kohl Liner- £3.99photo:Black- Easily the best eye liner pencil I’ve ever tried. Enough said. I definitely need to get my hands on some of the other colours, because so far I’ve only used Black.

Maybelline Color Tattoo£4.99– photo:On & On Bronze, Metallic Pomegranate- These cream eyeshadows are truly incredible. They’re easy to use and the colours are oh-so pretty! I just wish the UK shade range was a little bit better. I really want to try Barely Branded and the new nude collection, preferably without Ebay’s painful shipping rates.

Barry M Nail Polish£2.99/£3.99photo:Pomegranate, Nude Vanilla- At this point on my blog I feel like I should mention that I am not sponsored by Barry M. I seem to be crying over the perfection of their nail polishes every other week, though, so I would understand if there was some confusion. Pretty much every single nail polish of theirs that I’ve tried has been stunning, and if you type ‘Barry M’ into the little search bar on my blog then there will be more than enough nail polish swatching goodness to keep you mildly entertained for at least a few hours.

What are your under £5 favourites? I’ll be doing a £5-£10 favourites post soon-ish, too, so any recommendations in that price zone are definitely necessary at the moment for, ahem, research.

The Body Shop Haul

I’m so sorry for writing ‘haul’ in the title. I hate doing that, but I can’t think of a better word for it while keeping everything search-engine-friendly. Is ‘purchases’ too pretentious?

The Body Shop *currently 40% off everything when you use ‘14665’ at checkout!*

Eau de Toilette in Honeymania, Pink Grapefruit and SheaShea Body Butter, Pink Grapefruit Showel Gel, Hemp Hand Protector, Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream, Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream.

This order literally only just arrived, but so far I’m really happy with everything. It all smells beautiful, as always, and I can already tell that I’m in love with the Hemp Hand Protector. I did another Lush & The Body Shop Haul very recently, so I’d love it if you had a look at that! Have you tried any of the things I’ve picked up recently, or is there anything you think I might like?

Ok, this idea might be a massive fail but I thought I’d let you know anyway- I’m trying to move this blog to a different url (eeeeeeeeeeeeek).

Just because I like trying to be difficult;) I really don’t like the url I have at the moment, I made it ages ago and it’s supposed to be a play on ‘label’ and the french word for ‘beautiful’ but I had to put the 1 at the end and it ruined it and argh asdfghj

I was going to do the fancy re-directing thing, but that’s just too complicated and I was hoping you’d maybe pop over to and follow and stuff? Please?

I’ll be posting the same stuff on both of the blogs for the next few weeks, just to see how well this is going to work- I’ll probably end up staying with the url I have now so I don’t end up alone on the internet- but it would mean a lot if you could help me out:)

Soap&Glory Lid Stuff

This little quad of eye shadows has been sitting neglected in my eye makeup drawer since July, how awful. I’ve gotten into a bad habit recently of buying eye shadows because they look pretty- but then never getting round to actually wearing them. Enter: Project Use Eyeshadow. Very creatively named, I think, and I also think that this quad needs to be used first. I’ve been wearing this for the past few weeks and I’ve really grown to love it.

Ok, so, I’m pretty useless at doing my own eye makeup. I can do other peoples alright, but I have a really awkward eye shape so applying eye shadow is pretty difficult. Soap&Glory’s Lid Stuff is definitely the easiest to apply of all the eyeshadows I’ve tried, though, so I can kind of make it work. What I do, is press Vanilla all over my eye lid, right up to my eyebrow. It’s enough to cover the veins on my eye lids, but not too much to look unnatural. Then I apply Pink T over the lower part of my eyelid (with one of those eyeshadow sponge things) but no higher than the crease. Then I put Mudhoney on the outer corner, a little bit of Aubersheen along the crease and blend it all with a fluffy brush. These eye shadows are so powdery, that as soon as you’ve blinked a few times they almost blend themselves. It’s very difficult to go wrong, and the colours are really pretty and natural. I can hardly even tell I’ve got eyeshadow on, it’s awesome.

I have a few other Soap&Glory shadows (which you can buy now in the Crazy Sexy Kohl Christmas Gift Set!) which I normally use with those other four, too. I use an angled brush to apply Smokin’ along my upper lash line, and then use a teeny bit of Dandy Plum along my lower lash line. It’s such a pretty purple!

And that’s it! It’s really simple but I’ve been loving  it for quite a while. Just as a side note, the formula of these is very powdery. I actually prefer that to creamy shadows because I think it’s easier to control, but if you have very dry skin these might not even stick to your eye lids. They last about six hours on me without a primer, and you can buy Lid Stuff for £10 at Boots.

Have you tried this? What do you think? I think I’ll be buying the other two quads at some point.

MAC Lipstick- First Impressions part1

Back to blogging with a reallyreallyreally good post!:) I mean, the actual post isn’t going to be that great. I mean the product because it’s beautiful;)

This is (confession) my first ever MAC product. Ever. Which is really weird when you consider what an obsessive freak I am, but I’ve always been hesitant to buy one lipstick for (wait for it) £15, when I could get possibly three ‘normal’ lipsticks for that. I’m not saying I’m against high-end-ish products because I’m absolutely not and I love them, but I’m still building up my makeup collection, and I guess I’d prefer to do that with loads (accurate description) of slightly cheaper items, than one or two more expensive items. Rambling now, so I’ll get into the review.

As you might of guessed from my oh-so-clever photo editing^, this lipstick is called On Hold. I have no idea why, but that’s not really important;) It’s basically a raspberry toned pink/red, which does look like it has the slightest hint of gold sparkle in it. Luckily, this doesn’t show up as glitter per se, it just makes the lipstick a little bit brighter and more light-reflective, I think.

It isn’t completely opaque in one coat, the top colour in this^ picture is one coat, but then you layer it up and you get it to the point of almost being red. That’s not really showing up in this picture, but you get my idea.

On Hold is a cremesheen, and to be honest I haven’t tried enough other MAC lipsticks to really know what that means, but it looks really moisturised, I guess. I mean, it’s not glossy, it’s not even shiny, it kind of looks like a matte lipstick with a lip balm over the top. But even though it looks moisturising, I find it does end up feeling a little heavy on the lips after a while, but it does seem to stay looking the same.

I haven’t worn it a lot, to be honest, but from what I can tell it lasts really nicely. It doesn’t do that REALLY REALLY ANNOYING thing that some lipsticks do, which is fade from the centre of the lips but leave a beautifully attractive lip-liner-esque look. It all fades equally, after maybe three or four hours without eating. And that’s not even with proper application, if you used a lipliner, a lipbrush and did the blotting thing, you could probably get it to last a lot longer.

The packaging is, basically, really nice and professional. I like the slightly sparkly black tube, and the fact that it comes in a box* and everything. Apparently, one picture isn’t enough:

Apparently 2 or 3 photos isn’t enough either. I’ll stop now, because I’m boring you;)

*Does anyone else have this problem with makeup that comes in boxes, where the very pretty expensive looking box is taking up too much room, but you can’t bear to part with it or even store it somewhere else because then your product won’t be ‘complete’? That isn’t just me, is it?

OK, this is the deal-breaker. This lipstick was £15, which, like I mentioned before, is a ridiculous amount of money for one product. When I used to stalk MAC products when I was, like, 10, I swear these were little over £10. Saying that, they must be worth it because I am planning on buying more. I might be insane?

Loving this. I’ve got a really lip product obsession going on at the moment (you’ll see). Love the colour, love the finish, love the packaging, just lovelovelovelove. And there’s a part 2! Yay! That probably won’t be up for a while though, but I’ll explain that soon;) If you want to see another review/ first impressions post on a MAC lipstick, check out Cassidy’s post about Creme D’Nude and like and follow while you’re there!:)

I hope you liked this post! Please recommend me some MAC products to try, too- the website is so overwhelming but I really want to build up my collection;D

I’m going to try and post more often, too. The past week or so I just haven’t been able to think of anything to post, but I’ve been on a little (‘little’ being the operative word) spending spree, to celebrate the fact that my ‘spending ban’ is over. I know. I’m an idiot. I’ve also been feeling a bit ill, because *hot* weather (even though I love it) always makes me really down and hulk-esque. It’s like the opposite of SAD.

I really haven’t come across well in this post have I?!

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer-REVIEW(:

Finally doing an actual review! Whoo:)!

There’s been so much hype around this concealer for so long now! I’ve wanted to try it out for ages, but Boots and Superdrug had this seriously irritation habit of only stocking Light, Medium and Deep, so when I saw that they had Fair the other day I completely freaked and had to stop myself from buying, like, twelve of them.

I hardly ever wear concealer- I only started wearing foundation about six months ago so that’s normally enough coverage. But for the past couple of days, I’ve been using my Clinique Anti-Redness Powder and a little bit of the concealer applied with my beauty blender, and it’s worked really well. The formula has insanely high coverage, but it’s really blendable, and it doesn’t look fake and cakey.

This concealer only comes in four shades (Fair, Light, Medium, Deep) so I was kind of worried they’d be too dark for me because I’m really pale, but Fair is actually really perfect. I don’t know about the other three shades, but it’s a really wearable neutral-colour, which isn’t too pink or too yellow like most concealers I’ve tried before.

OK, also, I can’t not mention the packaging because I actually think it’s really nice. It’s simple and modern and doesn’t look and feel cheap at all;) It comes with one of those doe-foot applicators, which isn’t great, but it’s fine for applying the product to where you need concealer and then I use a beauty blender to blend it in.

And the best part is, it costs £4.19. That. Is. Amazing. It’s something that I’ll absolutely be re-purchasing and using every day:D Let me know if you want to try this, or if you have tried it and what you think;)

You can buy this concealer at Superdrug and Boots

Colours Of The Rainbow TAG!:)

This tag looks like so much fun! I’ve seen it round YouTube for a while, but I had no idea it had reached the blog-world, so big thanks to Asha from for tagging me!

OK, quick confession before the tag- I couldn’t choose one object for each category. I KNOW, I’m weak. I was thinking that the point of this tag is to let people (you. Reading this. You are ‘people’) know about new products that are awesome and that they should try. So, I’m going to show you the pictures (which are bad, by the way. I just took them, but it’s all rainy outside so the lighting is terrible) and then do my best to put a link to each of them under the picture.

New Things! Part 3

Part 3- makeup!:)

Ok, I was meant to write this post ages ago but I never got round to it, but now, here it is! YAY:) I’ve had so many people mention that they want to see what I think of the lipsticks in the big collage picture I posted on Part 1 and 2, so I’m pretty exited to start writing this.

Beauty Blenders!

It took some deliberation, but I’ve decided these definitely go with makeup, not skincare, even though I’m sure my skin has been clearer since I’ve started using these to apply my makeup. These aren’t genuine beauty blenders, but I can’t see how they could work any better or be any different, because these are just fantastic. I use mine for foundation, powder, and sometimes even blush and highlighter, because it creates such a flawless, natural finish. Little tip, if you’re one of the lucky people who can get away with just wearing powder on your skin, try applying it with one of these. It’ll give you a really fantastic layer of natural looking coverage. Something to think about;) I get mine from Amazon or Ebay;)

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain.

WOW. Really, just wow. This foundation is incredible. About six months ago, I started wearing foundation. I was using Bobbi Brown skin foundation in the lightest shade, because it was the only thing I could find that was light enough for me. I’ve loved it ever since, but every drugstore foundation I tried was too dark for me, so I was still hunting for a cheaper alternative. Fast forward five months, and I’m with my little sister in Superdrug, trying to find a foundation that would suit her (which she didn’t need, because she has great skin, but all her friends had started wearing makeup. Irritating) and we decided on a BB Cream for her, when she noticed this bottle of foundation and was all like ‘haha, Loll, that foundation looks light enough even for you‘ and damn it, she was right. And I love it, and it has a better coverage than Bobbi Brown, which for days when my skin is gross, is really nice. The only thing I will say is that If you have oily skin, this probably isn’t for you. I have combination skin, but I hate matte foundations, I think skin should have some natural glowiness to it, and I think matte foundations hide that. But anyway, this is great for nice, healthy looking skin for maybe five hours, but then I find my skin starts to get a bit oily. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve found that my Bobbi Brown is perfect for keeping my skin the same all day, but Match Perfection is less than £10, so I’m not complaining.

Revlon Baby Stick in Tahitian

I’m still deliberating about this product. Over the past few months I’ve become a bit of a blush fanatic, trying out every single product I could get my hands on. This is the latest in that line, and it’s the first one I have a serious love/hate relationship with. I picked it up in the Superdrud 3-for-2 sale, so I figured if I didn’t like it, it didn’t really matter because essentially, it was free;) But anyway, when I first tried it, I was like, ‘OMG, this is amazing’. It says it’s for lips and cheeks, and I was loving it for both. It was a really sheer wash of colour, which is great if you’re pale like me (and Casper). But, after a while, I noticed the little colour there was faded, and it was just kinda greasy, so I don’t know. If you have dry skin, maybe give this a go? I’m determined to give this a fair chance, so I’m not going to say I hate it just yet;)

Rimmel Expression Kajal Eyeliner

Bought it because I wanted a waterproof eyeliner pencil. Thought it might work. Was alright. There’s not really much else I can say about this. It’s an eyeliner pencil, it lasts pretty well, the ‘lead’ wasn’t as soft as I like them to be, could be kinda scratchy. I’ve got cheaper eyeliners I prefer, so mergh;( If you have a waterproof eyeliner pencil, let me know!

Natural Collection Moisture Shine Lipsticks in Cranberry and Raspberry

I realised about a month ago that I don’t have any lipsticks. Said fact totally freaked me out, so I started obsessing about them:) I’ve always had a bit of a problem with lipsticks. I’ve never really found a shade that looked quite right on me, so I decided to go to my trusty Natural Collection counter and try out some of the shades. These two really caught my eye, and I love them both. They both look pretty natural on me, which is nice, but they’re like a me-but-better product, you know? These are about £2 each from Boots, which is absolutely fantastic and they’re totally worth it.

I really can’t write today ugh;(

Revlon Lip Butters in Tutti Frutti and Wild Watermelon

Tutti Frutti was one of the very first things I reviewed on this blog. That was a loooong time ago. I was in love with it for a while, and then I forgot about it for a while, but then the other day I picked up Wild Watermelon and fell in love all over again. They’re just brilliant, they can be really sheer, or really pigmented, and it’s like you can use it as seven different lipsticks. And I’m starting to want to buy more of these. I think we all know what that could mean. Someone recommend me some colours, preferably similar to this, I like reds and dark pinks, before I buy them all to try. HELP.

Barry M TMLP Lipstick

This was part of an absolutely lovely giveaway by Asha from which, moment of tense silence please, I won. It arrived a couple of weeks ago, with Mr. Bumble, this lipstick, a face mask, and couple of other insanely cute little things!:) So check out her blog because it’s fabulous, and you’ll love it. Follow+like+comment. But anyway, this lipstick. My god, I actually love it. I’m sorry I don’t have a picture, but you’ll just have to take my word that this thing goes fuchsia. I’ll have to wear it in a Youtube video so you can see;) But wow. It lasts amazingly well, it’s really conditioning, and the colour is great. What more can you ask for;)? You can buy this for £4.49 at Boots or Superdrug. I might have to buy another one of these, just because I want to see how it would work in lip-balm form. That could be pretty amazing!:) If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out Cass’ blog, she’s done a post on making your own lip balm, and it looks amazing and I can’t wait to try it.

Barry M TMLP Lipstick

Revlon Lip Butter, I have Tutti Frutti and Wild Watermelon

Natural Collection Lipsticks, available in Boots stores

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation

Revlon Baby Stick, can’t find it on the website

Rimmel Kohl Kajal Eyeliner

And check out, it’s absolutely fantastic for finding out what foundation shade you should wear, if you already have two examples that suit you.

New Barry M Hi Shine Gelly Nail Polish | Summer

I have been, like, freaking out about these for ages. AGES, I TELL YOU.

And now I have them.

Too dramatic? Yeah. Alright, so, for those if you who don’t know, or haven’t worked it out from above rambling, I flipping love the Barry M Gelly range, and I have the whole collection, and then three days ago, they come out with five completely fantastic new colours.

Seriously, you should’ve seen me in Superdrug yesterday. Picture a manic expression, windswept hair, carrying an armful (fine. Handful) of nail polishes, constantly looking left and right and snarling at anyone who dared look at me or my beautiful nail polishes.

They’re BEAUTIFUL. They are, without a doubt, in my top ten of the whole collection. Possibly top seven. But that’s not as catchy.

What the hell are you talking about? People walk around with their nails like this all. the. time.

RETURN OF THE OBSESSIVE NAIL POLISH CHART. Some of you know exactly what I’m talking about. The rest of you should consult my last post about these nail polishes.

The colours:D

This one is beautiful. It’s the perfect balance between Pomegranate and Grapefruit, so it’s just a really Summery, ‘safe’ shade, great if you want to try the bright summer nails but aren’t comfortable with yellows and greens. The formula’s fantastic, thick and shiny and easy to apply. You could probably get away with one coat.

This one is absolutely stunning, definitely one of my favourites in this collection. A lot like a more wearable shade of Greenberry. Fantastic formula, beautiful nail polish, opaque in two coats.

This is a brilliant, bright orange, easily my second favourite, and wins points with me just for the name, even though mangoes are yellow, red and green. Oh well. This actually has thinner formula than most of the Gellies, so three coats are needed, but it looks great when it’s done.

Blue grape

They’re going really cartoony with the names. Grapes are red, green or black. Grr. Again, this one has a thinner formula, but the colour is so worth it, it’s beautiful for all year round. LOVE.

Key Lime

Could this not just be called Lime? Or apple, judging by the colour it shows up. I initially didn’t like the look of this one, but on the nails is a really gorgeous tropically-exotic colour. Great formula, too:)

And that’s the new shades! I am completely in love with all of them, they’re beautiful. What are your favourites? Are there any your planning on getting, or already have in this range?

The only thing that annoys me is the names. I love the idea, I love the colours, I love the formula’s, but the names AREN’T RIGHT. It’s like they ran out of fruits the right colour so just went with anything. But anyway, loving these.

Let me know what you think, and as always, comments and recommendations will make me love you forever(: I’m currently looking for a good strengthening base coat, any ideas?

You can pick these nail polishes up for £3.99 each at Superdrug, or on June 12th (I think) they’ll be the same price at Boots.
