The 2014 Beauty Favourites

I haven’t written anything on this blog for a very long time, and I have absolutely no excuses. I’ve got so many half finished drafts saved, but the longer I left posting them, the more intimidating finishing them seemed- but I couldn’t let 2014 end without writing up a little something about my favourite products of the year. (Actually, the writing part of this post is almost over now. I’m still quite nervous)

Rimmel Match Perfection- pretty much the only foundation I’ve been wearing this year. 010 Porcelain is actually light enough for me, which makes a lovely change, and the coverage is kind of light/ medium, but buildable. I plan to branch out a bit, foundation wise, in 2015 but I actually have a spare bottle of this hiding in the back of my makeup drawer.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer- another pale skin saviour! This bronzer is completely matte (so great for contouring), and you can go pretty heavy handed with this stuff without looking too bronzed. I use it with the Real Techniques Blush Brush [not pictured].

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette- obviously. I honestly cannot gush about this palette enough, so I’m just going to sneakily link you to my review and swatches post.

Sleek Blush Trio in ‘Lace’- I’m not really an big blusher fan (I’m working on it!) but this palette has been one of my most reached for makeup items this year. I’ve been using the red shade on pretty much every makeup wearing day, but they’re so pigmented that I’ve not even dented the pan. Review and swatches here.

L’oread Miss Manga Mascara in Purple- a new addition, but a very welcome one. I don’t really love mascara, and I’m actually completely clueless when it comes to what makes a mascara good (I know I like Benefit They’re Real and Soap&Glory Thick and Fast…help?) but the slightly purple tint to this one is what I love. It’s just something a little bit different, and helps towards making my, honestly, swamp coloured eyes look just a little bit more like hazel.

MAC Lipsticks in ‘Patisserie’ and ‘Plumful’- I’m honestly not sure I need any other lipsticks. These are just beautiful, and I’m not going to say much more because one of the many previously mentioned drafts may well turn into a MAC lipstick swatch-a-thon.

Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks- I tend to think of these as MAC Lipsticks in gloss form. The smell like vanilla, have medium, but pretty colour payoff and they last really nicely. I actually have a series of posts about lip crayons, these included, which is right here.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Skin Protectant- the best lip balm ever, and a little goes a long way.  It’s also great for really dry skin and as a cuticle conditioner.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers- I’m not sure where I’d be without these. I have very straight eyelashes, and at my healthiest and most awake I look a bit dead (I’m coming across really well in this post) but these go a long way towards fixing that!

Carmex Lip Balms- another new discovery! The formula of these lip balms is actually quite similar to the Skin Protectant, but these smell a little nicer and are much more convenient for throwing in your handbag (or pockets. Or both. Out of interest, how many lip balms normally leave the house with you?).

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream- this might be the only hand cream I’ve ever used that is super nourishing, but not sticky. I’ve been using this hand cream nightly for almost a year now, and I’ve only gone through two of the full sized bottles, so it’s a really worthwhile buy. The packaging could be better- the lid isn’t the most convenient if you’re on the go, it’s definitely a bedside table thing- but it’s really the product that counts.

Manuka Doctor Skincare- that’s the Blemish Cream in the picture above, but I’ve been testing out a few products in the anti-blemish range recently (about two months) and I’ve been loving them. Skincare is definitely one of my new years resolutions (I actually hate new years resolutions and refuse to make any, but I promise I will get better at skin care!) and this range is at the top of my list of things to write a post about.

Thanks for reading! I’m going to try and get back to blogging a little bit more regularly in 2015- as I’ve been typing I’ve had a few ideas for posts that I’m actually looking forward to writing which I’m very happy about. I feel like I’ve missed loads, I didn’t even ramble about Naked Basics 2 (got it, love it, not as thrilled with the colour selection and eyeshadow quality as I was with Naked Basics, though)!

I hope you had a great year, feel free to tell me all about your favourite beauty products from 2014 in the comments! MAC Lipstick recs are also welcome, I’m obsessed again. Also blushers! What are your favourites?

Favourite Lip Care

The Lip Scrub

Lush Lip Scrub £5.50 – I’m currently working my way through Santa Baby, Lush’s cola-flavoured Christmas scrub, but Mint Julips, Bubblegum and Popcorn all work brilliantly (and taste yummy). I generally use a lip scrub once every three days, or just before using a matte lipstick. If you don’t want to spend to money on Lush’s fancy packaging, you can mix a little bit of caster or granulated sugar with some honey or olive oil and keep it in an empty lip balm tub.

The Nighttime Lip Care

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream Skin Protectant Fragrance Free £22.10 – 8 Hour Cream is genuinely awesome. I spent so long putting of buying it because of the price, but a little goes a long way. It works for everything, and it really is a long-term fix for damaged lips.

Nivea Essential Care Lip Balm £1.65 – The ultimate super-cheap lip balm- I’ve been using this one for years and it’s still one of my favourites.

The Body Shop Lip Butters £4 – These leave a kind of pale cast on your lips, so there perfect for using overnight. They really are like butters, and they smell amazing. I’m utterly in love with the Coconut and Shea ones.

Tinted Lip Balms

Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm £1.99 – I love the Palmers lip balms- they leave a kind of satin, almost matte finish (rather than the normal lip balm glossiness) and the Chocolate and Cherry one has a gorgeous red tint.

Revlon Lip Butters £7.99 – (review) My ultimate favourite lip butter is Juicy Papaya, but all the shades are pretty and moisturising. They’re pretty much my everyday lip colours.

The Body Shop Lip Balms £2 – pretty colours, gorgeous scents, super moisturising. I’ve actually ended up with every shade (whoops) but my favourites are Raspberry (strawberry laces!) and Passionberry.

The Lip Gloss

Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Butter £2.99 – Don’t be fooled by the name- this is no lip butter. This is a dark chocolate and peppermint flavoured, non-sticky lip gloss which really conditions your lips. I can’t get over the scent of this, it’s absolutely amazing. The packaging makes it great for throwing in your handbag, too.
