The 2014 Beauty Favourites

I haven’t written anything on this blog for a very long time, and I have absolutely no excuses. I’ve got so many half finished drafts saved, but the longer I left posting them, the more intimidating finishing them seemed- but I couldn’t let 2014 end without writing up a little something about my favourite products of the year. (Actually, the writing part of this post is almost over now. I’m still quite nervous)

DSCF4240

Rimmel Match Perfection- pretty much the only foundation I’ve been wearing this year. 010 Porcelain is actually light enough for me, which makes a lovely change, and the coverage is kind of light/ medium, but buildable. I plan to branch out a bit, foundation wise, in 2015 but I actually have a spare bottle of this hiding in the back of my makeup drawer.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer- another pale skin saviour! This bronzer is completely matte (so great for contouring), and you can go pretty heavy handed with this stuff without looking too bronzed. I use it with the Real Techniques Blush Brush [not pictured].

The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette- obviously. I honestly cannot gush about this palette enough, so I’m just going to sneakily link you to my review and swatches post.

Sleek Blush Trio in ‘Lace’- I’m not really an big blusher fan (I’m working on it!) but this palette has been one of my most reached for makeup items this year. I’ve been using the red shade on pretty much every makeup wearing day, but they’re so pigmented that I’ve not even dented the pan. Review and swatches here.

L’oread Miss Manga Mascara in Purple- a new addition, but a very welcome one. I don’t really love mascara, and I’m actually completely clueless when it comes to what makes a mascara good (I know I like Benefit They’re Real and Soap&Glory Thick and Fast…help?) but the slightly purple tint to this one is what I love. It’s just something a little bit different, and helps towards making my, honestly, swamp coloured eyes look just a little bit more like hazel.

MAC Lipsticks in ‘Patisserie’ and ‘Plumful’- I’m honestly not sure I need any other lipsticks. These are just beautiful, and I’m not going to say much more because one of the many previously mentioned drafts may well turn into a MAC lipstick swatch-a-thon.

Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Sticks- I tend to think of these as MAC Lipsticks in gloss form. The smell like vanilla, have medium, but pretty colour payoff and they last really nicely. I actually have a series of posts about lip crayons, these included, which is right here.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Skin Protectant- the best lip balm ever, and a little goes a long way.  It’s also great for really dry skin and as a cuticle conditioner.

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers- I’m not sure where I’d be without these. I have very straight eyelashes, and at my healthiest and most awake I look a bit dead (I’m coming across really well in this post) but these go a long way towards fixing that!

Carmex Lip Balms- another new discovery! The formula of these lip balms is actually quite similar to the Skin Protectant, but these smell a little nicer and are much more convenient for throwing in your handbag (or pockets. Or both. Out of interest, how many lip balms normally leave the house with you?).

The Body Shop Hemp Hand Cream- this might be the only hand cream I’ve ever used that is super nourishing, but not sticky. I’ve been using this hand cream nightly for almost a year now, and I’ve only gone through two of the full sized bottles, so it’s a really worthwhile buy. The packaging could be better- the lid isn’t the most convenient if you’re on the go, it’s definitely a bedside table thing- but it’s really the product that counts.

Manuka Doctor Skincare- that’s the Blemish Cream in the picture above, but I’ve been testing out a few products in the anti-blemish range recently (about two months) and I’ve been loving them. Skincare is definitely one of my new years resolutions (I actually hate new years resolutions and refuse to make any, but I promise I will get better at skin care!) and this range is at the top of my list of things to write a post about.

Thanks for reading! I’m going to try and get back to blogging a little bit more regularly in 2015- as I’ve been typing I’ve had a few ideas for posts that I’m actually looking forward to writing which I’m very happy about. I feel like I’ve missed loads, I didn’t even ramble about Naked Basics 2 (got it, love it, not as thrilled with the colour selection and eyeshadow quality as I was with Naked Basics, though)!

I hope you had a great year, feel free to tell me all about your favourite beauty products from 2014 in the comments! MAC Lipstick recs are also welcome, I’m obsessed again. Also blushers! What are your favourites?

I’ve been wearing very natural looking makeup at the moment- so not the most exciting of posts but I have been loving all of the products I’ve been using. A lot of these are new (which you might remember from one of my more recent haul posts?) and I’ve been using them pretty much every single day since I bought them. *I’ll be updating my favourites soon for a more Spring-esque look, so if pastel colours are your thing then stick around for my next ‘Currently Loving’ post.*

I’ve been starting out with the Bourjois Happy Light Matte Primer, which is lovely because it’s not too intense but it keeps most of my natural oiliness at bay. I’ve then been buffing on some Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer with the Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush on just the areas where I tend to have redness and spots- using this brush with the Collection concealer gives a really natural looking but full coverage finish, which makes a perfect base for the L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau de Teint Foundation. This foundation is very light coverage but it’s so easy to build, and it literally will not go cakey. When this was first released I was adamant that I didn’t want it, but now I’ve tried it it’s definitely one of my favourite foundations. It feels like a very light powder on the skin, but looks like absolutely nothing while still giving me a little bit of coverage. I’ve even looked at this in natural sunlight with one of those horribly unflattering magnifying mirrors and it’s honestly invisible. My only problem with this is that it’s ever so slightly too dark, but I can get away with it because I normally only use one or two drops. I blend this foundation in with my fingertips, but I like to just double check that everything is blended with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.

At this point in the makeup application, everything looks a little bit too matte, so I’ve been using just a teeny, tiny bit of the Bourjois Java Rice Powder on the high points of my face. It leaves a really pretty, natural looking sheen- nothing too sparkly. Next, I’ve been using the Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzing Powder very lightly around the outside of my face with a Real Techniques Blush Brush, just to put a little bit of colour back in my face after using the high coverage concealer. I love this blush for bronzer, you can read all about that here, if you want.

For eyes, I have literally just been dabbing W.O.S from the Urban Decay Naked Basics (review) palette all over my eyelid to hide the redness or veins, and then I’ve been using Venus to highlight my brow bone and inner corner. Very lazy, but it just makes everything look that teeny bit more perfected. For my lips, I either use MAC Syrup which is a beautiful, neutral plum colour or a Revlon Lip Butter (reviewin Macaroon. Both are really pretty natural colours, which just give a little bit more than most my-lips-but-better shades.

What do you use for no-makeup makeup looks?

Superdrug Purchases

Image

It’s been a while since I last went crazy with Superdrug sales, so I thought it was about time I placed an order. Also, there are new Barry M Nail Polishes! You might have noticed I’m utterly obsessed with them, so of course I had to order all of these ‘Silk’ ones. And have you heard that there are three new Hi Shine Gellies being released in, like, two days?! I think we can expect to see a review of those on my blog very soon (hopefully).

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Polish | Complete Collection

New Barry M Gelly High Shine Nail Polish | Summer

Image

Aren’t the beautiful? Swatches and review soon.

Barry M Silk Nail Polishes– Truffle, Pearl, Blossom, Heather, Mist, Meadow, £3.99 (buy one get one half price).

Image

L’Oreal Eau de Teint Foundation– £9.99- Porcelain- I’ve heard really mixed reviews of this. When it was first released I was completely decided that I did not want it. I was wrong, and so far, I think I kind of like it. It’s way to dark (this is the lightest shade, of course) but I’m planning on buying Illamasqua Skin Base in White asap, so I’ll hopefully have a real opinion soon.

L’Oreal True Match Foundation– £9.99- Natural Ivory- The shade range for this foundation is so confusing. This shade is the lightest neutral (as far as I can tell) and it is a tad too dark, but again, I’m working on it. I’ve heard a lot about this foundation recently, so I have pretty high hopes for it. I love it when a drugstore product gets randomly hyped up by everyone all at once.

L’Oreal Lumi Magique Primer– £9.99- I’ve heard loads about this recently too! I am determined to fall in love with L’Oreal makeup.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer– £5.99- This has been released fairly recently, and I’m a little obsessed with primers at the moment (can you tell?). A lot of Rimmel is two-for-£9 at the moment, too.

Rimmel Scandeleyes Micro Liner– £5.49- Black– I love felt tip style eyeliners, and since I’ve just used up my lovely Maybelline Eyestudio Precise Liner, I thought I’d give this one a try. I really love the other Scandeleyes liners (there might be three of the black one in my makeup drawer at the moment, shhh) so I’m hoping this one will be good.

Bourjois Java Rice Powder– £9.99- I’ve been trying to decide whether or not to buy this for so long purely because I didn’t know exactly what it was. Turns out it’s a kind of brightening finishing powder (possibly more about that in a review or something soon) and I’ve only used it once, but so far, I think I really like it. It’s a re-release from 1879, too, which I think is really cool, something to do with Bourjois’ 150th birthday last year.

Bourjois Happy Light Primer- £10.99- Matte, Luminous– I’ve been so obsessed with the idea of the Happy Light range since it was released, but the foundations all looked really dark, so I’ve decided to try out the primers! I’ve barely looked at these two yet, so I don’t have much to say except that I am in love with the packaging (and all Bourjois packaging).

Have you tried any of the things I’ve bought? And are you as exited as I am for the new Barry M Gelly nail polishes?!?

Frozen- Elsa Inspired Makeup

Remember what I was saying the other day about being too scared to try out Elsa’s makeup? Well, I was with my bestest friend ever Cass the other day and I ended up doing her makeup in a kind of Elsa-inspired, wearable-purple kind of look.

We filmed the whole thing, and the lighting and picture quality aren’t amazing (let’s not even mention my horrendous editing) but I am going to work on it for some possible future videos.

Take a look? I’d love to know what you think (helpful criticism is more than welcome), and if you like the video it would honestly mean the world to us if you subscribed or liked or commented.

July shopping:)

Ok, I have literally gone makeup and cosmetic shopping insane, this month, so I thought I’d do a *quick* post, with mainly pictures and not much of me rambling so you can decide if there’s anything you want me to review:)

Here’s most of what I bought this month-

Image

Nail Polish! If you’re new here, you should know I have a small problem. Just scroll through some of my previous posts, you’ll understand.

Left-right= Essie Mint Candy Apple, Maybelline Color Show in 130 Winter Baby, 150 Mauve Kiss, 465 Brick Shimmer and 661 Ocean Blue, Revlon Nail Enamel in 770 Heavenly and 580 Eclectic.

Image

Image

I bought Apocaliptic pretty much in the week these lip lacquers came out because I’d seen so many bloggers go crazy for them, but I was actually really unimpressed, mainly because of the colour. I decided to pick a few more up the other day and give them a second chance. To be honest, I’m still not in love, but I’m still planning on getting more colours. By the way, this swatches? Real love. These things stain.

Image

Can’t do a ridiculously expensive Boots order without skincare! Love both of those, I am actually planning a skincare post soon if anyone’s interested?

Image

Image

Image

LOVING all of these. So pretty, you know how I love my Natural Collection lipsticks, and I’m thinking I’m gonna be pretty obsessive over these Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks now:D

Image

I’ve got 6 of these now, but there are 4 or 5 more I want, so when I have them I’ll do swatches and a real review and stuff:) These were actually in one of my very first reviews. All cringe:L

Image

Image

Image

More about all these in my next post:)

Image

Free nail polish (I got Electric Dream which is sooo pretttyyy) when you spend over £4 on Collection- of course I got another Lasting Perfection Concealer:)

Image

My sister asked me to order her some Natural Collection makeup, so I decided I’d try out their blush in Peach Melba, which so far I am loving.

Image

Little bit more Soap&Glory makeup (another post in the making, I think) which are both amazing!!

This isn’t including the ridiculous amount of hair dye I stocked up on  this month, but I didn’t think anyone was interested in that:)

Let me know if there’s anything here you want a review for, or any recommendations and stuff in the comments;)

April-Stuff I’ve Used:)

Alright, these sort of posts are normally reserved for youtubers who do ’empties’ videos, but I thought I’d do a blog-post version, because I like to live on the edge.

Image

Not the prettiest of photos, but you get the idea:)

STARTING WITH THE MAKE-UPPY STUFF:

Image

The boring one first, make-up wipes! Which, I know, they’re pretty bad for your skin, but they’re useful, and I normally get through just over one packet a month:) And my Maybelline Color Sensational Popstick. OMG. Unless this is like the first of my posts you’ve ever read, you’ll probably know that I completely love this. I’ve never used this much of a lipstick before, ever. And there’s even less of it than there was when I took this photo. It’s just amazing. Luckily, I’ve got a new one, which you’ll see in one of my posts pretty soon:)WOO. If you don’t have a Color Sensational Popstick, BUY ONE. Immediately.

THE TOILETRY STUFF:

Image

Yeah, so basically, Soap&Glory. You know how I love my Soap&Glory;)! These are all mini’s, which is how I’ve managed to finish them;) Hand Food, Scrub of Your Life and Clean On Me, all amazing:) It’s the first time I’ve used Scrub of Your Life, and I actually didn’t find it particularly ‘scrubby’. It was more like a body polish, if you know what I mean.

SCENTS:

Image

This is the perfume my mum always used to wear, and she had like five bottles of it, so when she started wearing Daisy, she gave this bottle to me. It’s not my absolute favourite scent, but I still like it, and I’ve been wearing it quite a bit recently.

HAIR:

Image

Herbal Essences Ignite My Colour Intensifying Mask, I lurve Herbal Essences:) It’ll be one of my next Shampoo Reviews, so more about that then. These Intensive Masks are lovely, I wouldn’t say they do a much better job than normal conditioner used as a mask, but I just love the smell and the packaging:)

OTHER:

Glade Christmas Candle. For which I have lost the picture I took. Yes. Christmas Candle. Smells amazing, has made me addicted to candles, much to my mum’s fear:) Let me know what your favourite candle is, because I need to buy a new one and there’s just so much to choose from and I’m a little overwhelmed.

And as you might have noticed from the very first photo, there’s also L’oreal Casting Creme Gloss there, which I haven’t actually used yet, but I’ll be dying my hair on Saturday, and that’s still April, so it’s cool:)

So, this is what I’ve used this month. Not including boring stuff like shampoo and conditioner and deodorant and toothpaste, though:)

Leave me some recommendations, or let me know if there’s anything you want me to review, or if you’ve tried any of these:)
