Urban Decay Naked 3 vs. Makeup Revolution Iconic 3

Image

Introducing- the first Naked 3 dupe! Isn’t it beautiful? This is ‘Iconic 3’ by Makeup Revolution (a new brand which just launched at Superdrug) and I’ve been looking forward to comparing these two since I bought it, so I’m not even going to try and write a better into.

The Naked 3 Palette- £37

Image

‘Naked 3’ contains 12 neutral-warm toned shadows (9 shimmer, 3 matte). This palette of rosy-toned wonderfulness was only released a few months ago, and it’s been a pretty firm favourite in my collection since then. It’s incredibly easy to wear- despite some of the slightly scary looking pinks- because I find that the whole colour scheme sits quite nicely between warm and neutral and the matte shades included are much better transition shades than in previous palettes. There are fewer full-on glitter shades than in Naked 1 and 2, so that helps with the whole wearability thing. I can’t think of a skin tone or eye colour that wouldn’t suit the shades in this palette, to be honest, and the quality of the shadows are absolutely wonderful. The only thing I have against the palette is the price, but as this is my favourite of the Naked palettes I can almost not cringe about it.

The Iconic 3 Palette- £4

Image

‘Iconic 3’ contains 12 neutral-warm shadows (9 shimmer, 3 matte). The shades in this palette are almost completely identical to Naked 3’s shadows, but for a fraction of the price. If I’m dividing correctly (probably not), then I think you get slightly less eyeshadow in this palette than in Urban Decays, but there’s only 0.3 grams in it, so that’s not a problem. Iconic 3 comes with a dual ended sponge tip applicator (surprisingly useful for applying the glitter shades) and the packaging, though a little cheap and already slightly scratched, is pretty sturdy and quite simple, so it looks a lot more expensive than it is. The quality of the shadows aren’t as good as Urban Decay’s, but honestly, for the price, they’re absolutely incredible. There are a few slightly chalky shades, and a few that need to be built up a little, but most of them have great pigmentation, are easy to blend and last at least as long as the rest of my makeup.

Image

There are a couple of shades in Iconic 3 that look slightly paler than Naked 3’s, but apart from that I think they’re pretty incredible copies.   I love 4, 6 and 9- they’re all amazingly close to the pigmentation of their Urban Decay counter parts.

I’m seriously impressed with Makeup Revolution. I’ll be doing a few posts about some of there other eye shadow palettes very soon, but for now, what do you think of Iconic 3?

Favourite Pink Things

Happy Valentines Day!

Today seemed like a good day to talk about the lovely pink things in my collection that don’t normally get enough attention- it’s probably a little too late to advertise them as Valentines presents (congratulations, if you get one of those, by the way) but they are all beautiful pick-me-up things which are just so pretty to look at.

I’ve also included a couple of Ted Baker brushes, purely because they are the brightest pink ever. They are so pink that I actually don’t want to use them, they’re so pretty. The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Lip Butter and Eau de Toilette are representing the entire Pink Grapefruit line, which I absolutely adore (included in hauls here and here), and there’s also a Body Shop Raspberry Lip Balm which smells like strawberry laces. *Sidenote, I promise not to mentionn Pink Grapefruit again.* I’ve thrown in a couple of Invisibobbles (reviewwhich I recently picked up in hot pink which look awesome when I have my hair dyed black. I’ve included Lush’s Rose Jam Shower Gel (review), Rose Jam Bubbleroon and Rock Star, both smell super sweet and fruity and lovely. The VO5 Heat Defence Spray is also in the picture- it’s the only heat defence spray I’ve ever used and honestly I love it so much that I don’t think I’ll every bother trying a new one. For nail polishes, I’ve got OPI Call Me Gwen-ever, Essie Cute as a Button (review) and Barry M Dragonfruit (reviewwhich are all very beautiful. Finally, I’ve included Rimmel Kate Lipstick in 20, which is an insane dark, hot pink and then the Revlon Lip Butters in Sweet Tart and Lollipop (review)

Urban Decay Naked Basics

I finally bought the Naked Basics palette! This teeny tiny, almost completely matte palette has been on my wishlist for ages- pretty much since I bought Naked and Naked 2 in May. The only thing that was stopping me from buying it is that before my little eye shadow-wearing-project, I didn’t realise I could wear matte eye shadows. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I have very pale skin so I always thought that warm, matte eye shadows would look too natural, but too dark. Basically I was worried about looking like I’d broken my nose or something. I have, however, found myself reaching for my matte Soap&Glory quad and shades like Urban Decay’s Naked, Foxy and Tease recently, so I decided it was time to try out Naked Basics. This might also have a lot to do with being really really psyched about Naked 3 too. I’ve become a little bit of an Urban Decay junkie.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Naked Basics contains 6 eyeshadows (of which five are matte, and one is a satin, semi-matte kind of finish) which is half as many as in the original palettes but still enough to create a full (and very pretty) eye make-up look. It’s also great for the base for more colourful eyeshadows because they can look so natural. All shadows are 1.3 grams or 0.05 US oz, the same as in the other Naked palettes.

Image

The formula is exceptional, as always, and all the shadows last hours without the need for a primer. They apply beautifully and are easy to blend while still staying put, which is absolutely perfect if, like me, you’re pretty useless at applying eye shadow:).

Image

Venus is the only shadow in the palette which isn’t matte. It’s a satin finish, which means it’s just shimmery enough to work as a highlight, but still natural enough to use all over the lid. It’s a pale, creamy neutral shade which doesn’t seem to be either yellow or pink toned.

Foxy has already made an appearance in Naked 2. It’s a very pale yellow which is beautiful as an all-over-the-lid base (particularly if the rest of your make-up is pink). Matte.

Walk of Shame is one of my favourites. It’s pink the way Foxy is yellow and it’s pigmented enough to cover veins or discolouration on your eyelid. Matte.

Naked 2 is a lovely pale taupe which I use from my lash line to my crease. It’s lighter and much more cool toned than Naked (from the Naked palette) and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Matte.

Faint is a cool, medium/ dark brown and perfect for my eyebrows. I wear this blended into my crease and it looks absolutely gorgeous- my most worn out of this palette.

Crave is a strange one; I thought it was completely black until I compared it to Blackout from Naked 2. Turns out Crave is a very, very dark brown. I wear it as a liner which is just slightly more subtle than using Creep or Blackout but still very pretty. *It’s one of those that now I know it’s brown, I can’t believe I ever thought it was black.*

Image

Image

Image

Image

The only thing I’m not completely in love with about this little palette is the packaging. It looks beautiful and it’s really strong and functional, but it chips my nail polish like crazy when I try to open it! That’s kind of annoying, but apart from that it’s perfect. It’s only slightly longer than a credit card and it’s the same width, so it’s absolutely perfect for travelling. It’s literally pocket sized, has a full sized mirror and doesn’t contain a brush or any crappy applicators. The packaging feels kind of like Sleek’s (and what I imagine Nars’ like), but it doesn’t seem to get as dirty because it’s not black.

Image

If you want to try out Urban Decay’s shadows but don’t want to hand over £36 (or twice that if you can’t decide which Naked palette is prettiest!), then this is the perfect solution. It’s £20 and it’s just lovely- try it out. I can guarantee you’ll be hooked on Urban Decay before you know it.

Available at DebenhamsHouse of FraserBeauty Bay and Look Fantastic. You can also get hold of it on Amazon and Ebay, but you’ll gave to pay quite a bit more.

Sleek Oh So Special

Image

I’ve just been sitting here looking at my keyboard for about seven minutes trying to decide what to write here.

AAARGHH

I’ve had my eye on the Oh So Special palette for about six months, and I have no idea why I’ve only just picked it up but I’m so happy I did! It’s wonderful and the colours are beautiful; it’s basically a neutral palette which isn’t boring, containing pinks, bronze-y browns and a few very dark plummy shades.

Image

I have to talk about the names. Ribbon, Celebrate, Wrapped Up- they’re pure festive adorableness. I can’t.

Anyway:) I’ll try and write a coherent review now I promise.

The formula of the eye shadows in this palette are even better than in the Vintage Romance palette, I think that might have something to do that this palette isn’t limited edition..? I’ll just have to buy another one to find out. But they’re all really soft and blendable, with no fall out or chalkiness, which makes them so easy to use! I’m even tempted to test this theory by handing this palette to my seven year old sister and seeing what she can come up with, I just need a willing model.

Image

These are all, literally, barely swatched. And they look like this- they’re so amazing! I think the very best ones are probably Pamper, Gateau, Ribbon, Gift Basket, Glitz and Wrapped up, purely for pigmentation. The only slight problem I have with the colour selection in this palette is that there are a few shades (The Mail, Ribbon and Pamper) which are really beautiful but I just can’t imagine I’ll wear them. I wish there was a shimmery white highlight in this palette instead, that would make it perfect for a complete everyday look.

What do you think of these colours? I think they’re really beautiful and I’ll get quite a bit of wear out of them- right now I’m wearing Organza, Boxed and Celebrate as a liner and it looks quite pretty:)

Sleek Oh So Special is £7.99 and available at Superdrug.

Lip Colours | Autumn Favourites

I was going to do this post a month ago- I swear. The official start of Autumn was the 22nd ish of September…wasn’t it? I don’t know, but that’s when this post was supposed to be up. But apparently, I had to buy another seven purple lip products since then- online shopping- argh! This, for me, is definitely the best time of year for lipstick. I love the pretty berry tones and socially-acceptable reds, and I think that Autumn is great for the warm shades. You know, how Winter is like, bright reds and stuff, Spring is baby pink, Summer is bright orange, and Autumn is berry purple. That’s literally my annual lipstick code. So…yeah. Intro done (ish).

Image

1. Clinique Chubby Stick Intense- Grandest Grape

Image

This is a really nice one to start with, because Grandest Grape is the most perfect, pure Autumn purple. It’s a beautiful shade, whether it’s worn to it’s full opacity or as a sheer, glossy stain. I really love the Intense range of the Chubby Sticks- I’m planning on buying Mightiest Maraschino very soon.

 2. Soap&Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick- Plum Jam

 Image

The Soap&Glory lip crayons are one of my favourite lip products ever- particularly this shade. I’m not one to wear lip gloss, I totally hate the stuff and even have trouble with the lovely Rimmel Apocalips, but these have that lovely lip-glossy look, without being sticky or heavy. This is a really pretty, purple/ dark pink and it’s a perfect warm, everyday autumn colour. Also, it smells like vanilla. Yummy.

 3. Mac Lipstick- Plumful (Lustre)

Image

I only brought my first Mac lipstick about three months ago- I chose Plumful and now I am so, so glad I did. At the time, I didn’t really feel like wearing a purple lip colour (purple lips scream Autumn, oversized sweaters and hot chocolate to me) but now it’s absolutely perfect. You can read my full review of it here, but basically, it’s a lovely medium purple which can be worn as almost-sheer to almost-opaque.

 4. Revlon Lip Butter- Red Velvet

Image

The first of the red toned lip colours in this post is absolutely gorgeous. Red Velvet is a deep red wine colour –almost burgundy actually- which always makes me think of Christmas. I know, I know, it’s October. BUT CHRISTMAS! As this is one of the darker lip butter shades, it has lovely pigmentation and the sheen of a lip balm.

5. Revlon Lip Butter- Sugar Plum

Image

This lip butter is another purple shade (I might have a problem) but this one looks more like a dark pink with a kind of purple warmth to it. Does that make sense? I feel like this is a more pigmented, less glossy version of Plum Jam. It’s very pretty- another everyday, daytime lip colour.

 6. Revlon Lip Butter- Tutti Frutti

Image

This isn’t exactly the sort of colour that comes to mind when I think of Autumn, but Tutti Frutti is an awesome Halloween- pumpkin shade. It’s very bright, but I guess I need to get out of the berry-lips-for-Autumn mindset. This is definitely orange, so it’s not going to look too peachy and Summery. It would be a nice pick-me-up for a particularly miserable, cold day, too.

7. Maybelline Baby Lips- Cherry Me

Image

The name says it all- Cherry. This is a really gorgeous colour, my favourite of the Baby Lips range. If you haven’t tried these yet, go and pick this one up for £2.99. You can’t go wrong- it’s a great everyday, throw-it-in-your-handbag lip balm.

 8. Vaseline- Paint the Town Red

Image

Speaking of lip balm- the new Vaseline! *And still, I haven’t picked up that bloody pink and black one, argh*. I saw this in Boots a few days ago, and I was like, woah- a red tinted lip balm? Favourite thing ever. As it turns out, this is just very slightly pink, but it’s lovely all the same for those days where you really can’t be bothered (most days for me). And it smells like Ribena, which is awesome.

9. Rimmel Colour Rush Balm- Keep Mauving

Image

One of the newer additions to my ever-growing collecction of lip crayons (yes, it is getting out of hand, thanks for asking)  are a couple of these Colour Rush Balms. They smell like vanilla, and this one, Keep Mauving, is lovely. It’s a very dark plum, which has slight brown tones to it. It’s kind of vampy, in a neutral way. It would like pretty awesome with gold eyeliner, I think.

 10. Mua Power Pout- Crazy in Love

Image

Don’t be fooled by the purple packaging and actual lipstick bullet- this is definitely what I would classify as a red. It’s dark, but it’s definitely red. It’s very pretty, has a minty scent and for only £3, it’s a great affordable lip colour. It’s really shiny too, which I love, and it definitely feels like a balm with the pigmentation of lipstick. Just as a side note- don’t leave one of these in your car or handbag, it’s very melt-y, and the packaging isn’t fantastic.

So that is my top-10 list of lip colours for Autumn! As I’ve been writing this, I’ve realised there are another fifteen lip products I could have put into this post, so I think I’ll have to do a Winter-Top-10 too.

Thanks for reading, what are your favourite lip products for this time of year? Have you tried any on my list?

Natural Collection Moisture Shine Lipsticks- Review:)

 I haven’t done a review in ages!

This is following on from my last ‘New Things’ post. If you had a look at that, you might have noticed some of these Natural Collection Lipsticks, in Cranberry and Raspberry. I completely fell in love with them, so earlier today, I went into Boots and picked up a few more. And so did my mom. Apparently, I can be fairly persuasive.

Image

The new colours I picked up are-

Cherry Red- dark, crimson, almost matte finish red. It looks a lot brighter on the lips, though. It’s  a kind of berry, Autumn/ Winter red, and absolutely gorgeous.

Rose Bud- I’d call this one a kind of caramel-pink, which is probably the pinkest neutral you can have. It would be a gorgeous Spring colour for people who don’t want to wear bright colours.

Coral Shimmer- very bronze, shimmery, pink-toned colour, so pretty and summery! I wouldn’t really say it’s coral, though, it’s coppery and bronze, but still beautiful.

Caramel- This is like a slightly darker, more grown-up version of Coral Shimmer. It’s gorgeous and almost sparkly, love!

Image

Image

Not the best swatches, but you get the idea:)!

Image

These lipsticks are so worth the £1.99 from Boots. They’re so amazingly pigmented, they last at least two hours, but it’s a really lovely formula that I can apply without a mirror, so that’s not awful. I’ve read a lot of reviews saying the packaging is too cheap, which, yeah, it is. This is the one of the cheapest of the cheap drugstore brands, but I think you get more than you pay for. You buy makeup for the product, and it’s nice when there’s pretty packaging, too, but I’d rather be paying £2 for a great lipstick, than £5 for a great lipstick and good packaging.

Annoyingly, these aren’t on the Boots website, you can only buy them in store, but they’re so worth the trip. The colour range is fantastic- mainly nudes, pinks and reds but I wish they’d bring a nice coral into the collection. They’re not all glittery and disgusting either- and they don’t have that worrying, cheap lipstick smell (play dough. They smell like play dough. I don’t want play dough on my lips, thanks, MUA). So, yeah, loving these, and I can’t wait to get my hands on some more.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these or other shades that you think I should try, and if you like them or not, and if you want to give these a try!

WHAT’S IN MY SUPERDRUG BASKET?

Because this is what I do when I’m bored. I stalk http://www.superdrug.com, putting loads of stuff in my basket and hoping my mom will decide I can prder it;)

There’s so pretty amazing make-up kicking around at the moment, so I thought I do a quick post before the WiFi dies again letting you know what’s currently on my Make-Up Wishlisht:) You can read my last make-up wishlist post here, if you want;)

Image

That, right there, my friends, is some talented printscreening.

I’m particularly exited about the new Barry M nail art pens, that I’ve seen a cool review for on http://www.pollypolish.com –check it out, it’s a great blog:)

Let me know if you’ve tried any of these things&what you thought of them, and, as always, recommendations welcome;)

I really sorry that my last few posts have been so useless, I’m going home today, so tomorrow I’ll try to get a good post up for you;)

The Lush Post no.4- SOAP:)

Image

When I decided to do a ‘Lush Post’ series, I had already kind of decided that soap would be last. Lush soap, it’s just perfect. It’s beautiful. Bath bombs and bubble bars, for all their loveliness, last one, maybe two baths- soap is bloody immortal. As you can see in my talented photography above, I went through a phase of having to chop my soap into smaller pieces so it lasted longer. Needless to say, this was before I realised Lush soap is immortal.

http://www.lush.co.uk

I can’t believe I’m actually writing the last in a series of posts! So weird:) Kind of like an almost-two- months-of-blogging anniversary, I guess:) Well, it’s the last Lush Post for now, one day if I have more than two shower gels and I try the face masks and makeup, maybe they’ll be another one. Let me know if there are any of the above I should try!

ANYWAY.

Here are my top-8 Lush soaps (Yup. Eight. I couldn’t narrow it down)-

1)      OK, number one Lush soap is and always will be Honey I Washed the Kids. Always. Alwaysalwaysalways.

Honey I Washed the Kids

I’ve rambled about it in practically every Lush/ Soap and Glory post I’ve ever written, as you may have noticed;) It smells bloody amazing, it’s really sweet without being overpowering and it’s almost kind of got an earthy undertone. I really can’t describe smells, meh. And it totally looks beautiful, if you’re lucky, you get a piece with an exfoliating honey comb side on it.

2)      Ice Blue.

I totally completely love the smell of mint. I’m really varied with this sort of stuff, most people only like sweet or minty or earthy or whatever, but I just love anything:) Anyway, this smells amazing. It’s really refreshing and I used to love using it in Summer, you know, when we used to have Summer in England. This one is one of my favourite colours too, which is actually what made me want it in the first place:)

3)      Porridge.

Porridge

If you have a quick look at the picture above, you might be able to see the neatly wrapped up cube labelled ‘Porridge’. I know this sounds so weird, because it’s really a love/hate smell, but I love the smell of porridge. Hate eating it, but LOVELOVELOVE the smell. Is that weird? Let me know:) But anyway, this one has little exfoliating grains in it, and it can be a bit too scrubby, but I love it anyway. It smells really sweet- It’s a bit like Honey I Washed the Kids actually. I love using this soap with Think Pink bath bomb, they go together so well. Is it weird to melt soap into your bath to make it smell nice?

4)      Sea Vegetable.

Sea Vegetable

Hell yes. Seaweed in a soap. I did warn you that my sense of smell is very varied. We can add salty to the list now, woohooooo:) But seriously, this soap. OMG. It smells gorgeous and it looks gorgeous and there are two huge, still wrapped pieces of it in my picture.

5)      Sultana of Soap.

Sultana of Soap

Yeah, I know, it creeped me out too. Fruit? Actual, real fruit, rather than the flavour of? REAL FRUIT IN A SOAP. DANGER. DANGER. But no, it smells lovely:) the consistency and texture and look of it actually reminds me a lot of Porridge, but I’m not sure if that’s because I got them at around the same time. Anyway, still smells, pardon the pun, lush.

6)      Miranda.

And not just because series 1 and 2 or Miranda are bloody brilliant (although I was slightly let down by series 3, there was one episode which was hilarious). I was talking Miranda Hart the sitcom, not Miranda the soap just them. AND NOW I AM BACK TO MIRANDA THE SOAP. Sorry about that short burst of insanity just there, I just had four desserts. It’s a buffet. In case you’re wondering, I generally type my posts in the evening, and then post them in the morning. GOD, ANYWAY. This soap looks proper gorgeous. It’s so pretty! And it smells all fruity and stuff:) I love all the coloured chunks in it. There’s a wrapped piece of it in my picture.

7)      The Godmother- Smells ridiculously yummy.

The Godmother

Like strawberry laces, but a bit more grown up, kind of. UGH, CAN’T DESCRIBE SCENTS. It’s dark pink and lovely, and covered in gold glitter. So pretty:) I always thought this was a Christmas soap, but clearly not.

8)      Karma-

Karma

because I’ve talked about it so many times, and it’s so fundamentally ‘Lush’ to me, that it can’t not be included. It smells really earthy and cinnamony, which isn’t the best smell in the world, but I still like it. If you like Karma soap, try Karma solid perfume, which I talked about in The Lush Post 3.

And that’s my top 8 soaps! Let me know what yours are, especially if it’s one of these:

Figs and Leaves, Snowglobe, Dirty, Mud Flats or Sexy Peel:) which are, of course, the ones I still want to try:)

If there are any other Lush products you think I should try and do a Lush Post about, prettyplease let me know, I love having a reason to go shopping!:)
